Morning Pages
Morning Pages are a practice where you write out three pages, by hand, of 'stream of consciousness' thoughts, every morning – before you do anything else.
"It's a game-changer.
I figure out so much by journaling first thing in the morning and work through a lot of things."
– Hailley
The two co-hosts of MakeWorkWork read The Artist's Way in 2019 and discussed the book in-depth in episode 19. The idea is to write out three pages, by hand, of 'stream of consciousness' thoughts, every morning before you do anything else.
Here is what it is in the words of The Artist's Way author, Julia Cameron:
"Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. *There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages* – they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only.
Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page...and then do three more pages tomorrow."
– Julia Cameron, The Artist's Way
"I love it. It's so great. It's so clarifying.
It's so often when something is bothering you and you don't know exactly what's the problem and you don't know how to say or what is and then in the morning pages the answer is just right there"
